ITALIAN FORMULA ACI-CSAI ABARTH CHAMPIONSHIP
The championship will be composed of 7 rounds on a two race format each of 23 minutes plus a lap, during which all young drivers will be followed by the Federal School Csai and particularly by Raffaele Giammaria in quality of tutor.
The structure is certainly the same of the Italian Formula 3 championship, starting from security standards up to the chassis and aerodynamics configuration. Despite not achieving brake horse powers of Formula 3 or its aerodynamics sophistication level, the Italian Formula ACI CSAI Abarth Championship will teach drivers a lot in terms of setting the car up and of preparing them to the leap to the higher categories with a stronger technical background. Teams will be able to study and devise the most effective solutions by liberating their initiative.
On the aerodynamics side, we measured down-forces quite close to those of Formula 3 and certainly higher than those of other single seaters mono-branded categories. Every car will have 10/12 gear ratios, drivers will have therefore to experiment several solutions without limiting themselves to the choice of long-medium-short ratios that is normally employed in these categories.
Raffaele Giammaria: "The single seater is surely very good from a technical viewpoint since it is based on the Formula Renault 2.0 single seater, with technical evolutions that in the last years distinguished the Tatuus: from a driving viewpoint is very similar to a Formula 3. The engine is fairly difficult to use, since it is derived from the 500 Abarth and has 180 hp. Being a turbo engine it has a sharp supply from 4.500 rpm on. We are working on this latter aspect to make it easier to handle.
All these aspects make the Formula Abarth a tough car to be driven but certainly very safe and preparatory for drivers coming from kart that are at their debut on single seaters?.
